Sreepur Village

After Bangladesh's War of Independence, BA flight attendant Pat Kerr witnessed harrowing scenes of single mothers having to give up their children due to poverty. Pat created Sreepur Village, a safe haven, so that families could stay together and eventually lead a life of independence.

Most single mothers arriving at Sreepur village have been widowed, divorced or abandoned by their husbands. They are ostensibly stuck and must often resort to desperate measures to keep themselves and their children alive.

Every year we provide approximately 120 single mothers and their children with basic needs and a secure and loving environment; we also equip mothers with crucial livelihood skills and knowledge to provide for themselves and their families over the long-term future. Each family can live on-site for up to 3 years. Since 1989 we have provided long-term support to thousands of single mothers and their children to help them break out of intergenerational poverty and towards financial independence.
