The Stitches That Rebuilt Khadija's Life

When Khadija lost her husband, her world fell apart.

Left widowed with three young daughters and no source of income, she found herself struggling to survive in the remote and marginalised district of Pirojpur, Bangladesh. With no family support and no way to provide food, shelter or education for her children, she faced an uncertain future.

In 2009, carrying nothing but hope for a better life, Khadija arrived at Sreepur Village with her three daughters.

"It felt like someone had opened a door when every other door had been closed," she recalls.

At Sreepur Village, Khadija and her daughters found much more than a safe place to live. They found a family.

Her daughters received education, nutritious meals, healthcare, clothing, and a safe environment where they could play, learn and simply enjoy being children. For the first time in years, Khadija no longer had to worry about where their next meal would come from or whether her daughters would have a future.

While her children were rebuilding their childhood, Khadija was rebuilding her life.

She participated in several vocational training programmes, discovering new skills and new confidence. Among all the opportunities she received, tailoring became her greatest passion. She especially enjoyed learning to operate industrial garment sewing machines, practising tirelessly until she became highly skilled.

Her dedication soon opened the door to employment in a garment factory.

With a steady income, Khadija gradually transformed her family's future. She supported her daughters' education, ensured they grew up with dignity and security, and eventually celebrated one of the proudest moments of her life- seeing all three daughters happily married.

"I always dreamed my daughters would have a better life than mine. Sreepur Village gave me the chance to make that dream come true."

After her daughters married, Khadija found herself living alone. Although she had achieved independence, she deeply missed the place that had once given her hope.

So she returned to Sreepur Village.

For Khadija, coming back felt like coming home.

Today, she works with Hold Everything, carefully stitching beautifully handcrafted bags that customers around the world love. Every bag she makes carries not only quality craftsmanship but also the story of resilience, determination and second chances.

She takes immense pride in her work, knowing that her skills continue to provide her with a reliable income. She can even provide financial support to her daughters whenever they need her.
